NNL Confirms Owerri as Host of 2026/2027 Annual General Meeting

Posted : 06 August 2026

The Nigeria National League (NNL) has confirmed that its 17th Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held in Owerri, Imo State, as preparations gather pace for the commencement of the 2026/2027 season.

The meeting, scheduled for Aug. 21, is expected to bring together key football stakeholders, including officials of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), executives of the 36 NNL clubs and league administrators to deliberate on critical issues ahead of the new campaign.

NNL Chief Operating Officer (COO), Danlami Alanana, disclosed that Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, had approved the league's request to host the AGM in the state capital.

He expressed appreciation to the governor for supporting one of the league's most important annual events, describing the gesture as another demonstration of the state's commitment to sports development.

According to the league secretariat, the 36 participating clubs are expected to arrive in Owerri on Aug. 20 and depart on Aug. 22 after the conclusion of the meeting.

While the venue for the AGM is yet to be announced, clubs have been advised to note the approved dates and make the necessary travel arrangements.

Top officials of the Nigeria Football Federation, led by President Ibrahim Gusau and General Secretary Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, are expected to attend the gathering.

Among the major issues slated for discussion are the roadmap for the 2026/2027 NNL season, club licensing requirements and proposed amendments to the league's rules and regulations.

Alanana also praised Governor Uzodimma for his continued support for sports and youth development, noting that Imo State has remained a strong contributor to Nigeria's sporting success.

The 2025/2026 edition of the NNL AGM was hosted by the Kaduna State Government at the 5th Chukker Resort in Maraban Jos, Kaduna State, before the hosting rights moved to Owerri for this year's meeting.

The Annual General Meeting is expected to lay the foundation for a successful 2026/2027 NNL season by addressing key administrative and operational matters. Stakeholders will be aiming to ensure a smooth campaign through collaborative planning and improved league governance.
