NNL Confirms October 2025 Kickoff for New Season, Reviews Promotion, Relegation Outcomes

Posted : 21 July 2025

The Nigeria National League (NNL) has officially confirmed October 2025 as the kickoff month for the 2025/2026 football season. This announcement follows a strategic Board meeting held on Friday, July 11, at the VIP Lounge of the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, Delta State.

As part of preparations for the upcoming campaign, the league’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) has been scheduled for the last week of August 2025. The high-level meeting served as a pivotal moment for Nigeria’s second-tier football league, where the Board reviewed the 2024/2025 season and mapped out a framework for further progress.

The NNL Board expressed deep appreciation to the Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, and the people of Delta State for their hospitality and sponsorship of the 2025 NNL Promotion Playoffs.

The Board also congratulated Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, on his recent appointment as President of the West African Football Union Zone B (WAFU B) by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), describing it as well-deserved recognition of his leadership in regional football.

Additionally, the Board commended the NFF Executive Committee for extending the tenure of the current NNL leadership. It reaffirmed its unwavering loyalty to the Federation and pledged continued alignment with reforms aimed at professionalizing Nigerian football and elevating the league's standards.

Key sponsors and partners, including Prostar Recreational Services Ltd, Sportlight Hub Ltd, Sofascore, and Monimichelle, were acknowledged for their significant contributions. Special recognition was given to Hon. Kunle Soname for hosting the pre-season workshop that helped shape a successful season.

The Nigeria National League Clubs Owners Association (NALCOMA) was lauded for its collaborative efforts and discipline during the 2024/2025 season, with the Board calling for even stronger cooperation in the future.

The Board also praised the Nigeria Referees Association and the NFF Referees Appointment Committee for improved officiating, which has enhanced the credibility of the league.

Looking ahead, the NNL will establish a Constitution Review Committee to evaluate and amend key sections of its Rules and Regulations to promote better governance and operational efficiency.

Promotions and Relegations Confirmed

The Board confirmed the promotion of four clubs to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL):

  • Wikki Tourists FC
  • Barau FC
  • Warri Wolves FC
  • Kun Khalifat FC

Eight clubs were relegated to the lower division after a difficult season:
