NNL Chairman Applauds Successful 2024/2025 Season, Super 8 Venue to Be Announced

Posted : 17 June 2025

The Chairman of the Nigerian National League (NNL) Board, Mr. George Aluo, has commended the quality of play and organization in the just-concluded 2024/2025 regular season. The season ended over the weekend, producing eight teams that have qualified for the eagerly anticipated Super 8 playoffs.

Speaking after attending one of the final matches, Mr. Aluo, a respected journalist turned football administrator, expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the league.

"I am truly excited that the regular season, which began with great enthusiasm, has concluded successfully," he said. "Reports from various venues regarding the standard of play, officiating, and fan behaviour are inspiring and commendable."

He acknowledged that while the league may not yet be perfect, the level of maturity displayed by players, coaches, and supporters is a sign of steady progress.

"Our teams are now winning away games, and losing teams are accepting defeat with grace. This is a significant step forward for our second-tier league. I commend everyone for raising the standard," Aluo added.

He also congratulated the eight teams that qualified for the Super 8, describing their performances as a clear indication of the league's growth and competitiveness.

“I extend my congratulations to all eight teams. The fierce competition, passion, and high level of play throughout the regular season show that the league has truly matured. While we continue to improve, our collective effort has taken us far, and the future looks promising.”

Aluo confirmed that the exact date and venue for the Super 8 will be announced next week. He noted that while some clubs in Conferences C and D concluded their matches weeks ago, teams from Conferences A and B will be granted a short rest before resuming preparations for the playoffs.

The eight teams that have qualified for the Super 8 playoffs are Osun United, Crown FC, Kun Khalifa FC, Warri Wolves, Barau FC, Doma United, Yobe Desert Stars, and Wikki Tourists. The Super 8 will determine the four teams that will be promoted to the Nigeria Premier Football League.
