The Nigeria National League (NNL) and BetPawa have renewed their Locker Room Bonus partnership for the 2026/2027 season in a deal worth ₦496.9 million.
The agreement is aimed at improving players' welfare, rewarding winning performances and strengthening competition across Nigeria's second-tier football league. The new season kicked off on November 1, 2026, with 34 teams participating in the competition.
Locker Room Bonus is a reward initiative powered by BetPawa. It provides winning bonuses directly to players and eligible technical staff through their mobile phones immediately after victories.
The arrangement allows beneficiaries to receive their rewards before leaving the dressing room. It also seeks to eliminate administrative delays and disputes that sometimes affect the payment of match bonuses in football.
The renewed agreement covers match-win bonuses, operational and promotional support, as well as an additional ₦8 million cash reward reserved for the most outstanding players and clubs at the end of the season.
NNL Chief Operating Officer, Danlanmi Alanana, welcomed the continuation of the partnership, describing it as an important contribution to the league's development.
He explained that the initiative has improved players' motivation and encouraged stronger performances from participating teams. He also noted that coaches have become more determined to secure victories because of the additional rewards available.
Alanana said the programme has increased competition among clubs while providing tangible benefits to players and technical personnel.
Danlami Alanana added that the initiative has also encouraged coaches to work harder towards securing victories, creating a more competitive environment across the division.
BetPawa Regional Manager for West and Southern Africa, Nii Ashong Katai, also reaffirmed the company's commitment to improving athletes' welfare through direct financial support.
“Athlete welfare is central to betPawa. Through the Locker Room Bonus, we're recognising athletes' efforts and extending direct support to more players, wherever they compete,” Katai said.
The renewed partnership covers all 34 participating clubs across the NNL's four conferences. Eligible players and technical staff will receive their match-winning bonuses directly through mobile money immediately after a victory.
The agreement builds on the programme's performance during the 2025/2026 season. According to the organisers, more than 5,000 direct mobile transfers worth ₦289.7 million were completed during the regular season and Super 4 competition.
The payment system is also supported by pawaPass and pawaPay, which provide identity verification and payment infrastructure to ensure bonuses reach the intended recipients.
With the renewed agreement, the NNL and BetPawa are looking to strengthen player welfare and make financial rewards more accessible across Nigeria's second-tier football competition.
