Crown FC, Warri Wolves, and Kun Khalifat FC have secured places in the NNL Super 8, with one final spot to be decided on a dramatic final matchday in the Southern Conference.
There was high drama at various centres on Matchday 21 of the 2024/2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) season, as three teams sealed their places in the Super 8 finals.
With just one round of matches left, the Southern Conference nears its thrilling conclusion. Three of the four Super 8 tickets have been secured, leaving one spot up for grabs on the final weekend.
In Group A, Crown FC booked their place in the Super 8 with a vital 2-1 away win over Ijele SC, taking their tally to 33 points. Their qualification was confirmed after Smart City FC suffered a 2-0 defeat to Edel FC, clearing the way for Crown FC to join Warri Wolves, who had already clinched qualification from the group.
With both teams now through, attention shifts to the upcoming showdown for ultimate NNL glory.
In Group B, the tension was equally palpable. Kun Khalifat FC, needing just a point to qualify, held Godswill Akpabio FC to a 1-1 draw at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri. The result lifted them to 37 points, securing their Super 8 spot.
Their qualification was further confirmed after Osun United suffered a 2-1 loss to Gateway United in Abeokuta, leaving them on 33 points and in a precarious position.
Sporting Lagos FC are set to play their final regular-season game against Solution FC. A win would see them rise to 34 points, temporarily taking second place behind Kun Khalifat. However, they will have a bye on the final matchday, giving Osun United a chance to leapfrog them if they win their own final fixture.
Osun United now face a must-win tie against First Bank FC, who are battling relegation. First Bank, currently on 24 points, need a victory to boost their survival hopes—or a draw, provided results elsewhere go in their favour.
Meanwhile, Rovers FC, who lost 1-0 to First Bank, remain on 31 points, just two behind Osun United. They will host Solution FC next weekend and must win, while hoping that Osun United either draws or loses to First Bank.
The final weekend promises fireworks, with Super 8 qualification and survival on the line. Fans can expect a captivating finish as the Southern Conference wraps up a season filled with tension, twists, and thrilling football.
