Africa's largest youth domestic football league, the Nationwide League One (NLO) has revealed major updates as it prepares for the 2026 season. During its Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Abuja on Friday, the league announced a tentative kickoff date, unveiled a new logo, and implemented important amendments to its rules and regulations.
In his address, the NLO leadership expressed deep appreciation for the support of Nigeria's apex football authority. “We want to acknowledge and express our heartfelt gratitude to the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Shehu Gusau, for his steadfast support and unwavering commitment to advancing football in our nation,” the NLO official said. “His leadership has been pivotal in elevating our league to unprecedented levels. Under Gusau's guidance, we are continually motivated to pursue our shared mission of propelling Nigerian football onto both local and international stages.”
Honourable Silas Agara, Chairman of the NLO Executive Board, shared the league’s achievements and announced the new season kickoff date of Friday, April 10, 2026. “The past year has seen remarkable success driven by the collaborative efforts of the League Board and the Secretariat,” he said. “Together, we have relentlessly worked to improve the quality and competitiveness of our league. Our hard work is receiving well-deserved recognition. The enthusiasm from fans, sponsors, and stakeholders is a testament to our progress, as seen in higher match attendance, increased media coverage, and the rise of talented players making their mark nationally and internationally.”
Additionally, the Director-General of the National Directorate of Employment announced a strategic partnership with Zkyte Technology and unveiled the rebranded NLO logo. “This collaboration marks a crucial step in rebranding our league in line with global best practices,” he said. “The partnership underscores our commitment to innovation and excellence. Our journey with Zkyte will enhance league administration and set new standards for success.”
Honourable Silas emphasized, “The logo rebrand signifies the NLO’s commitment to providing more than just a platform for grassroots football development. It aims to scout emerging talents and establish viable career pathways for players across over 300 clubs and academies in Division One and the U19 Youth League. This transformation is reflected in the improved graphics and wordmark of our new visual identity, symbolizing talent, athleticism, and the relentless pursuit of excellence.”
Regarding the amendments to rules and regulations ahead of the new season, Silas noted, “These changes mark a new chapter for the NLO as it continues to enhance its framework and foster the future of football in the region.”
