It has been officially confirmed that Kogi State Government-sponsored football club, Kogi United FC, will on Thursday, April 17th, at 4 p.m., face the nation's U-20 African Cup of Nations-bound team, Nigeria's Flying Eagles, at the FIFA Goal Project, Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja.
The Team Manager of the club, Tijani Ibrahim, stated that all arrangements have been finalized for his team, who are preparing for the Nationwide League One playoffs, to face the Flying Eagles, who are preparing for the U-20 African Cup of Nations in Egypt later this month.
On the other hand, Kogi United FC aims to use the high-profile friendly against the nation's U-20 side to assess its players and the entire team's level of preparedness ahead of the commencement of the 2025 edition of the nation's third-tier league, the Nationwide League One.
Kogi United FC, who narrowly missed out on promotion back to the Nigeria National League last season after topping the Kontagora Centre but were edged out on penalties by Yoca Crocodile FC of Kaduna, will fight for a return to the nation's second tier when they face eight other teams grouped together, set to compete at the Lafia City Stadium.
The Technical Adviser of the team, Coach Gilbert Opana, mentioned that the game against the Flying Eagles is indeed a high-profile one, considering that both teams are preparing for new challenges ahead.
The former Jigawa Golden Stars coach told the club's media that there's no better time for a quality encounter like this and said he looks forward to meeting the Flying Eagles, especially considering what the team has achieved so far under Coach Aliyu Zubairu.
The game will take place on Thursday, April 17th, 2025, at the FIFA Goal Project, Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium at 4 p.m.
