NLO Announces Strict Deadline for Mandatory Digital Portal Registration Ahead of 2026 Season

Posted : 08 April 2026

The management of the Nationwide League One (NLO) has issued a final warning to all participating clubs regarding its new digital registration process. In a move to modernize the third tier of Nigerian football, every club must now register via an official online portal. The league body has set a firm deadline of April 13, 2026, for the completion of this exercise.

According to an official statement released on Tuesday, the registration requirement is strictly mandatory for all teams. The NLO has made it clear that no exceptions will be granted to those who miss the cutoff date. The automated nature of the new system means that the portal will stop accepting entries precisely at the deadline.

Any club that fails to comply with this directive will be barred from competing in the 2026 season. The league organizers emphasized that this measure is necessary to ensure a credible and well-organized competition. By digitizing the process, the NLO hopes to eliminate administrative errors and improve the management of club data.

The 2026 campaign is scheduled to begin on April 10, 2026, with an opening match between Flight FC and NYSC FC. This season opener will take place at the McCarthy Stadium, setting the stage for the rest of the competition. The league will continue to utilize a stadium league format, featuring matches at designated neutral venues across the country.

More than 300 clubs are expected to participate in the tournament this year, divided into various regional groups. To support this massive scale, the NLO has introduced several technological upgrades beyond the registration portal. These include a revamped website and advanced AI-powered tools designed to enhance match coverage and data tracking.

League officials have urged club owners and administrators to act immediately to avoid last-minute technical difficulties. They noted that the transition to a digital infrastructure is part of a broader vision to professionalize grassroots football in Nigeria. This shift is expected to provide better visibility for players and more transparency in league operations.

Stakeholders have been asked to cooperate fully with the new guidelines to ensure the season begins without delays. The successful implementation of this portal is seen as a vital step in the league’s modernization journey. With the season fast approaching, the NLO remains committed to maintaining high organizational standards through these new digital reforms.
