Nigerians Abroad: Iwobi sparks Fulham, Ejuke rescues Antwerp, Boniface stings Paderborn

Here are some notable performances from Nigerian footballers abroad on Wednesday, December 6, 2023.


In England, Paul Mukairu played for Reading as they progressed to the next round of the EFL Trophy, winning a penalty shootout against Charlton Athletic. Although the full-time score was 1-1, Oluwafemi Azeez, who replaced Mukairu in the 65th minute, scored one of Reading's penalties in their 4-2 victory.


Alex Iwobi scored his first Premier League brace, leading Fulham to a 5-0 win over Nottingham Forest, including Ola Aina.


Calvin Bassey impressed in Fulham's defense alongside Tosin Adarabioyo during their significant 5-0 victory.


Frank Onyeka displayed a high-energy performance for Brentford, but they suffered a 2-1 defeat against Brighton.


In Spain, Umar Sadiq came on as a second-half substitute as Real Sociedad secured a 1-0 win against Andratx in the Copa del Rey.


Victor Boniface scored his 14th goal in all competitions, helping Bayer Leverkusen win 3-1 against Paderborn and advance to the DFB Pokal quarterfinals.


Nathan Tella featured as a substitute for the Bundesliga leaders.


In the Albanian Cup, Bobby Clement scored twice, including the winning goal, leading AF Elbasani to a 3-2 second-round win over Kastrioti Krujë. Samuel Ajine scored for Skënderbeu Korçë in their 4-0 Cup win against Turbina Cërrik. James Ayinde contributed to Lushnja's 3-0 victory over Tomori Berat in the Albanian Cup.


Chidera Ejuke scored his second goal for Royale Antwerp, and George Ilenikhena netted twice in a comeback 5-2 win over Sporting Charleroi in the Belgian Cup Round of 16.


Raphael Onyedika played in the last few minutes as Club Brugge secured a spot in the Cup quarterfinals with a commanding 4-0 victory over Zulte Waregem. Gift Orban and KAA Gent won narrowly, 1-0, against Sint-Truiden to reach the quarterfinals.


Yira Sor and KRC Genk were eliminated from the competition after a 3-1 extra-time loss to KV Oostende.


In the Scottish Premiership, Glasgow Rangers secured a tough 1-0 away win at Hearts, with Leon Balogun delivering an excellent performance in the heart of the Gers' defense.
