Nigerian Teenager Dotun Lamidi Signs First Professional Deal at Crystal Palace

Crystal Palace have confirmed that Nigerian youngster Dotun Lamidi has signed his first professional contract with the Premier League club, marking another important step in his development.

The 17-year-old put pen to paper on the agreement just over two months before his 18th birthday. Palace confirmed the development through their official channels as the young defender continues his progression through the club's academy.

Lamidi was born on October 17, 2008, and joined Crystal Palace from Watford last summer. He initially signed a scholarship agreement after moving to the south London club.

The teenager is regarded as a versatile player who can operate on the left side of the pitch. His ability to play as a wide defender or winger has made him a useful option within Palace's youth setup.

Lamidi made 16 appearances during his first season with the Eagles and also provided one assist. He was part of the Palace U18 side that reached the FA Youth Cup semi-finals and won the club's first-ever U18 Premier League Cup.

His performances earned further recognition towards the end of last season when he was included in the Crystal Palace U21 matchday squad for their Premier League 2 away fixture against Nottingham Forest. The opportunity provided another indication of the club's confidence in his development.

Speaking after signing his professional contract, Lamidi expressed his delight at securing his first senior deal and promised to continue working hard.

"I feel delighted. This is a new step for me, and I'm so grateful for the opportunity. I'm not going to take it for granted. I'll keep working hard every day," he said.

The Nigerian youngster also described the contract as a significant achievement in his young career. He acknowledged that earning a professional deal at such an early stage is an opportunity he does not want to waste.

Lamidi will now aim to continue his development within Palace's academy structure while pushing for more opportunities with the U21 team. His versatility could prove valuable as he works towards eventually breaking into senior football.

The contract also represents another positive development for a Nigerian-born player in the English game. Crystal Palace will hope Lamidi can build on his promising first season and continue progressing towards the first team.
