Nigeria’s national team is set for two high-profile international friendlies against Poland and Portugal during the June FIFA window, as confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
The Super Eagles will first take on Poland on June 3 at the PGE Narodowy Stadium in Warsaw. They will then face Portugal on June 10, although the venue for that encounter is yet to be announced. The matches were arranged through NFF’s FIFA match agent, Jairo Pachon of Eurodata Sport, who emphasized the importance of securing strong opponents for every international break.
Portugal will use the fixture as their final preparation before traveling to the United States, Canada, and Mexico for this summer’s FIFA World Cup. Poland, like Nigeria, did not qualify for the tournament, making the friendly an opportunity for both sides to rebuild and test their squads.
NFF Director of Communications Ademola Olajire described the upcoming fixtures as part of an exciting period for the national team, following encouraging results in March where Nigeria defeated Iran and drew with Jordan in matches played in Antalya, Turkey. Those games were initially planned as part of a mini-tournament in Amman, Jordan, but had to be relocated due to ongoing conflict in the Gulf region.
Before the June friendlies, Nigeria will also return to London to defend their Unity Cup title, which they won last summer. The tournament is expected to take place from May 26 to May 30, although the participating teams have yet to be confirmed.
Despite being three-time African champions, Nigeria will not feature at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, marking their second consecutive absence after also missing the 2022 edition in Qatar. The upcoming fixtures are seen as crucial steps in rebuilding momentum and preparing for future competitions.
