Nigeria’s Possible XI vs Guinea-Bissau: Chelle Blends Fresh Faces With Familiar Core

Nigeria’s Super Eagles are expected to make changes to their starting lineup when they face Guinea-Bissau in their second Group L fixture of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers on Tuesday, September 29.

Nigeria opened their campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in Uyo. Guinea-Bissau also started with a win, defeating Tanzania 2-0 away from home.

Both teams enter the fixture with three points. The result could therefore have an early impact on the battle for the top position in Group L.

Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle may rotate his squad because of the short turnaround between the two matches. Nigeria used a 4-4-2 formation against Madagascar before switching to 4-2-3-1 during the game.

Stanley Nwabali is expected to remain in goal after starting the opening qualifier. Benjamin Fredrick could replace Ola Aina at right-back, while Semi Ajayi and Calvin Bassey may continue as the central defensive pairing.

Bruno Onyemaechi is also expected to retain his position at left-back. The defensive changes would give Chelle an opportunity to manage the workload of some of his more experienced players.

In midfield, Wilfred Ndidi and Alex Iwobi could continue in the central roles. Samuel Chukwueze is expected to provide width and attacking threat from the right side.

Moses Simon is reportedly in contention to replace Ademola Lookman on the opposite flank. Simon's pace and experience could offer Nigeria a different attacking option against a Guinea-Bissau side that will be looking to build on its opening victory.

George Ilenikhena is also expected to keep his place after scoring Nigeria’s equaliser against Madagascar. The young forward produced a composed finish in first-half stoppage time on his international debut.

Moses Usor, another debutant, later completed Nigeria’s comeback with the winning goal. His performance gives Chelle another young attacking option as the qualifiers continue.

With Victor Osimhen unavailable, Akor Adams could partner Ilenikhena in attack. The combination would give Nigeria a blend of youth, pace and physical presence in the final third.

The lineup would combine several players from the opening victory with possible changes in key areas. Nigeria will be seeking another three points in Bissau to strengthen their early position in the Group L qualification race.
