Nigeria's national under-15 boys' team, the Future Eagles, have touched down in Baku for the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival. The 14-player squad and six officials landed safely in the Azerbaijani capital on Thursday afternoon after flying from Abuja via Istanbul.
Head Coach Patrick Bassey and team administrator Nasiru Jibril lead the delegation for the global showpiece running from October 22 to 31. Nigeria feature in Group AD alongside South Sudan, Jordan, The Gambia, Cyprus, and Pakistan. The West Africans kick off their group campaign against South Sudan on Saturday before taking on Jordan and The Gambia in a Sunday double-header.
The developmental tournament adopts an innovative eight-a-side format with two 20-minute halves. Group placements will decide which competitive tier nations enter for the second round starting October 28.
Coach Bassey selected a balanced squad drawn from grassroots academies and the NFF Talent Development Scheme. Victor Wisdom and Peter Linus provide options in goal. The defensive line features Daniel Olaomi, Prosperity Anionovo, Timothy Ijachi, David Okwusogu, and Michael Ibironke. Abdulsalam Muhammad and Martin Chukwu bolster the midfield, while Abdulrazak Mufutau and Wisdom Oche shoulder goalscoring duties upfront.
