Nigeria’s Flamingos Secure Dominant 7-0 Victory in World Cup Preparation Friendly

Posted : 28 April 2026

The Nigerian U17 women’s national team, known as the Flamingos, continued their impressive run of form with a 7-0 demolition of Nazareth Queens. This friendly match served as a crucial warm-up for the squad ahead of their 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifying series. The team showed no signs of complacency throughout the encounter held during their intensive training camp.

Wuraola Deborah Olayiwola initiated the scoring early by finding the net in the 8th minute of play. Nigeria maintained heavy pressure on the Nazareth Queens' defense for the remainder of the first half. Oluebube Jessica Umejiaku doubled the advantage in the 34th minute to give the Flamingos a 2-0 lead at the interval.

The offensive intensity increased significantly after the restart as the Flamingos took full control of the match. Striker Harmony Chidi proved too difficult to handle for the opposition defenders. She scored two quick goals in the 48th and 54th minutes to effectively end the contest as a competition.

The goals continued to flow as the coaching staff utilized the depth of the squad. Oluwakemi Adegbuyi converted a clinical penalty in the 59th minute to make it five. Shortly after, Islamiyat Oluwatosin Yusuf added a sixth goal in the 62nd minute following a swift attacking move.

Favour Enodumwenben finished the scoring in the 67th minute to seal the emphatic seven-goal victory. This result follows a previous 6-0 win over Generation Next in an earlier camp fixture. The Flamingos have now scored 13 goals without conceding in their last two outings.

Head coach Bankole Olowookere is using these matches to finalize his tactical approach for the upcoming qualifiers. The team is scheduled to face Guinea in a highly anticipated two-legged knockout tie. These friendly results suggest the Nigerian side is finding its rhythm at the perfect time for international competition.

The Nigerian Football Federation remains focused on ensuring the U17 side returns to the global stage. After a bronze-medal finish in 2022, expectations remain high for this current group of players. The technical crew expressed satisfaction with the clinical finishing and defensive discipline shown in the recent camp matches.
