The Nigeria U-17 women’s national team is stepping up preparations for the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifiers. The squad is currently based in Abuja at the Serob Legacy Hotel to focus on their next opponent. This training phase is designed to sharpen the players before they face the Guinea national under-17 team.
Head coach Bankole Olowookere is overseeing the sessions at the Goal Project pitch. The technical crew wants to evaluate the fitness levels of the invited players through competitive match scenarios. Most of the called-up athletes have reported to camp to participate in these tactical drills.
The Flamingos will participate in two exhibition games over the upcoming weekend to test their progress. They are scheduled to play against Generation Next on Saturday afternoon. A second match against Nazareth Queens will follow on Sunday to give the entire squad playing time.
Both friendly fixtures are set to kick off at 4:00 pm at the Goal Project site. These matches provide the coaching staff a chance to finalize their starting lineup for the Guinea tie. The team aims to build chemistry and improve their scoring efficiency before the competitive rounds begin.
Nigeria has a prestigious history in this youth competition and wants to maintain its high standards. The primary goal is securing a ticket to the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Morocco is the confirmed host for the global tournament later this year.
The tournament in Morocco will run from October 17 through November 7. CAF has allocated three slots for African representatives at the world stage. Nigeria remains a favorite to clinch one of these spots due to their consistent performance in previous editions.
Officials believe these local friendly matches are necessary for match rhythm. The players must adapt to the tactical demands of the technical crew quickly. Success against Guinea will move the Flamingos closer to their seventh World Cup appearance.
