The Nigeria U-17 women’s national team has officially arrived in Ikenne, Ogun State. This move marks the final phase of their preparations for the upcoming World Cup qualifying match against Guinea. The squad led by head coach Akeem Busari traveled to the Remo Stars Sports Complex to begin intensive tactical drills.
Prior to this move, the Flamingos spent four weeks at a training camp in Abuja. During that period, the team participated in five different friendly matches against local clubs. They recorded an impressive four wins and one draw to demonstrate their readiness for the continental challenge.
The first leg of this crucial encounter will take place in Conakry on Sunday, May 24. Nigeria will then return home to host the Guineans at the Remo Stars Stadium exactly one week later. The coaching staff is focusing on fine-tuning the attack to ensure a comfortable lead away from home.
The winner of this two-legged tie will secure a ticket to the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup. Morocco is scheduled to host the global tournament later this year from October 17 to November 7. Nigeria is aiming for another strong appearance after winning bronze at the 2022 edition in India.
Coach Busari has expressed confidence in the physical fitness of his current squad members. He believes the facilities in Ikenne provide the perfect environment for the girls to focus on their goals. The technical team will use the remaining days to analyze video footage of their opponents.
