Nigeria's Falconets thrash Moroccan Babes in All African Games Women Opener 2-0.

Posted : 09 March 2024

Nigeria's Falconets triumphed over their Moroccan counterparts with a 2-0 victory on Friday in Accra, Ghana, during the opening match of the women's football competition at the All African Games.

Despite Nigeria's numerous missed scoring opportunities, they made International Women’s Day a difficult one for Morocco, dominating the game and highlighting their football prowess.

The defending champions, Nigeria, capitalized on Morocco's errors in the first half, leading to an own goal by F. Bambara in the 19th minute and three yellow cards issued for caution.

Nigeria secured the second goal through A. Yina in the 40th minute, and the teams entered halftime with a 2-0 lead for Nigeria in Group B.

The Falconets, who clinched the title in Morocco in 2019, are set to face Senegal U20 women on March 11th in the second of three group matches at 9 p.m. Nigeria time. Meanwhile, Cameroon will compete against Morocco at 6 p.m.

Hosts Ghana are scheduled to play against Ethiopia at 9 p.m. on Saturday after Tanzania faces off against Uganda at 6 p.m.

In the second round of matches on March 12th, Uganda and Ethiopia will compete at 6 p.m., followed by Ghana against Tanzania at 9 p.m.

The top two teams in each group will advance directly to the semifinals.

In the men's category, Nigeria's Flying Eagles, coached by Ladan Bosso, suffered a 1-2 defeat against the junior Ugandan Cranes.
