The organisers of the Nigeria Pitch Awards have congratulated the Super Falcons on winning their 10th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title, following their triumph in Morocco.
In an official statement, Shina Philips, founder of the Pitch Awards, praised the Nigerian women’s national team for their exceptional courage, resilience, and unyielding spirit throughout the tournament.
“Our girls displayed the never-say-die attitude that Nigerians are globally recognised for,” Philips stated, commending the team’s remarkable determination.
The Super Falcons clinched the 2025 WAFCON title on Saturday after a dramatic final against hosts Morocco’s Atlas Lionesses. Despite going two goals down in the first 25 minutes, the Nigerian team mounted an impressive comeback to secure an emotional and historic victory.
Philips emphasized that the Falcons’ comeback serves as an inspiration to all Nigerians, especially during challenging times, symbolising hope and national unity. He also extended congratulations to President Bola Tinubu and all Nigerians, describing the triumph as a milestone in Nigeria’s sporting history.
He called for continued support for the National Sports Commission (NSC) and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), commending the President’s backing of both organisations as they work collaboratively to strengthen Nigeria’s national teams.
“This achievement should encourage our sports institutions to build further on this success. We strongly believe the Super Eagles can win the World Cup soon,” Philips added.
He also applauded the efforts of team captain Rasheedat Ajibade and goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie for their individual brilliance throughout the competition. Both players were nominated for the prestigious Queen of the Pitch Award at the 11th edition of the Nigeria Pitch Awards, with Ajibade emerging as the winner.
The Super Falcons, who remain the most successful team in WAFCON history, went undefeated in all six matches, scoring 14 goals in the tournament. Since the inaugural edition in 1998, which Nigeria hosted and won, the team has continued to dominate the continental stage, claiming titles in 1998, 2000, 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, 2016, 2018, 2024, and now 2025.
The Nigeria Pitch Awards, which began in Calabar in 2013, have grown to become a nationally recognised honour in Nigerian sports. Winners are selected through votes cast by over 100 sports editors across the country, coordinated by SIAO Partners.
The 12th edition of the Nigeria Pitch Awards is scheduled to take place in December 2025.
