Nigeria, Ghana Set for Jollof Rivalry at 2026 MiniFootball Women’s Nations Cup

Nigeria and Ghana are set for another chapter of their famous sporting rivalry after being drawn in the same group of the 2026 African MiniFootball Confederation (AMC) Women’s Nations Cup in Cameroon.

The two West African rivals were placed in Group B alongside Guinea and Kenya following the draw held in Yaoundé, setting up a potentially explosive final group encounter between the neighbours.

The much-anticipated meeting between Nigeria and Ghana has already added a familiar flavour to the tournament, with the fixture likely to rekindle the long-running “Jollof War” rivalry between the two countries.

Before that showdown, however, Nigeria will open its campaign against Guinea before taking on Kenya in its second group match.

Hosts Cameroon headline Group A, where they will face the Democratic Republic of Congo, Sierra Leone and Benin Republic.

The eight-team tournament is scheduled to run from September 30 to October 4, 2026, and will be the inaugural edition organised by the continental governing body.

Beyond the continental title, the competition will also provide a pathway to the World MiniFootball Federation (WMF) World Cup, adding further significance to the tournament for the participating nations.

With Nigeria and Ghana traditionally producing fierce contests across several sporting disciplines, their meeting promises to be one of the major attractions of the maiden AMC Women’s Nations Cup.
