Nigeria’s U-17 women’s team, the Flamingos, will commence their campaign for the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup by entering the African qualifiers at the second-round stage. The team is set to face the winner of the preliminary round clash between Niger Republic and Guinea.
The first leg of the second round is scheduled for May 22–24, with the return leg set for May 29–31. The team that advances on aggregate over the two legs will progress to the third and final qualifying round, where first-leg matches will take place from July 3–5 and the return legs from July 10–12.
Successful teams at the end of the qualifiers will earn a spot at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco, scheduled for October.
Nigeria, historically one of Africa’s most consistent performers at U-17 level, will be aiming to bounce back after their last campaign ended in disappointment.
The Flamingos were eliminated in the Round of 16 following a 4–0 defeat to Italy, an exit that has intensified focus on the upcoming qualifiers.
The team is determined to rebuild momentum and reassert their position as one of the continent’s traditional powerhouses in women’s youth football.
