Nigeria, China Share Spoils in Goalless U20 World Cup Encounter

Nigeria's Falconets secured a valuable point after playing out a 0-0 draw with China PR in their second Group F match at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Poland.

The encounter took place on Thursday, September 10, at the Arena Sosnowiec. The result followed Nigeria's 2-0 defeat to Spain in their opening fixture and kept the Falconets in contention for a place in the knockout stage.

China entered the match with confidence after a 5-0 victory over New Caledonia in their opening game. Huang Jiaxin was named Player of the Match against Nigeria after previously scoring a hat-trick in China's opening win.

Nigeria produced a much-improved defensive display and prevented China from adding to their five-goal tally. The Falconets also created opportunities through Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei, who posed a consistent threat to the Chinese defence.

China came closest to breaking the deadlock on several occasions. Li Chenyu hit the crossbar after just 82 seconds, while Xue Sifan also struck the woodwork early in the second half.

Despite China's attacking pressure, Nigeria's defence remained organised and held firm until the final whistle. The result gave the Falconets their first point of the tournament and kept their hopes of extending their campaign alive.

The draw also maintained Nigeria's record of reaching the knockout stage at every previous edition of the U-20 Women's World Cup. FIFA noted that the Falconets remain in contention ahead of their final group fixture.

Nigeria will face New Caledonia on Sunday, September 13, in their final Group F match. The fixture will be played at Stadion Miejski ŁKS Łódź, with Spain and China meeting in the group's other final-day fixture.

China remain unbeaten after two matches and are well placed to reach the knockout rounds. Nigeria, meanwhile, must finish strongly against New Caledonia and monitor the outcome of the other Group F fixture.

The Falconets' response against China represents a clear improvement from their opening defeat to Spain. Their final group match will now determine whether that improvement is enough to secure a place in the last 16.
