2025/2026 NPFL Rescheduled Match Day 26: Niger Tornadoes Target Home Upset Against Table-Topping Rivers United

Posted : 18 March 2026

Niger Tornadoes will be aiming to leverage home advantage when they host league leaders Rivers United in a rescheduled 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) Match Day 26 fixture on Thursday at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna, Niger State.

The Minna-based side heads into the encounter with a clear objective to disrupt Rivers United's dominance and claim a vital result in front of their home supporters.

Rivers United, fondly known as the Pride of Rivers, arrive in Minna under pressure to respond after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat to Ikorodu City at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan.

The result has added urgency to their title push, despite their position at the summit of the NPFL standings with 52 points.

For Niger Tornadoes, the clash presents an opportunity to capitalise on any vulnerability in the visitors' ranks and improve their standing on the league table.

Playing at home, they are expected to adopt an assertive approach against a side known for its tactical discipline and squad depth.

Meanwhile, Rivers United travelled from Lagos through Abuja to Minna with a full complement of players and officials, signalling their intent to secure at least a point on the road and consolidate their lead at the top.

With both teams chasing crucial objectives, Rivers United eyeing stability in the title race and Niger Tornadoes pushing for a statement result, the encounter promises to be a tightly contested affair in Minna.

Thursday's fixture at the Bako Kontagora Stadium sets up a compelling contest between ambition and necessity. Rivers United will be determined to bounce back from their loss to Ikorodu City, while Niger Tornadoes see this as a prime opportunity to make their mark against the league's pacesetters.

All eyes will be on Minna as both sides look to serve their respective causes in the title race.
