Posted : 18 November 2025

Niger Tornadoes FC returned to winning ways in the NPFL after a hard-fought 2-0 victory over Katsina United at home in Minna. Goals from Sarki Ismail in the first half and Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai in the second ensured the Ikon Allah Boys snapped their two-game losing streak, much to the delight of their fans.

The MatchDay 13 encounter promised excitement, with both sides eager to end their winless runs. Niger Tornadoes, coached by Majin Mohammed, had suffered back-to-back defeats prior to this match, while Katsina United had drawn their last two games. The stage was set for a competitive clash between two sides desperate for three points.

The home side started the match with intensity, and their efforts were quickly rewarded in the 10th minute. A clever setup by Clinton Jephta allowed Sarki Ismail to finish with precision, giving Tornadoes an early lead. Katsina United attempted to respond, but the Tornadoes’ defense remained solid, taking the team into halftime with a 1-0 advantage.

After the break, Niger Tornadoes continued to press forward, creating several scoring chances. Their persistence paid off when Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai capitalized on a defensive error, skillfully maneuvering past defenders before scoring to double the lead. From that point, the home team’s defense held firm, repelling repeated attacks from Katsina United and securing a well-earned victory.

Post-match, coach Majin Mohammed praised his players’ determination and resilience, acknowledging their effort to recover after consecutive losses. He also expressed gratitude to the fans for their unwavering support and optimism about the team’s upcoming clash with Rangers International in Enugu.

Niger Tornadoes made several substitutions during the match to maintain their momentum and manage player fatigue. At the 70th minute, Ahmadu Liman came on for Abdulaziz Dalhatu, followed by Victor Okoro replacing Ani Chigozie in the 75th minute. Later, in the 86th minute, Ismail Sarki and Abdulrasheed Shehu Dabai were substituted, along with Terdoo Shimagande making way for Rickson Mendos.

The team also had a number of unused substitutes, including Ifeanyi Nchekwube, Ifeanyi Okoye, Etim Matthew, Ahmed Family, and Najeeb Ibrahim. During the match, Katsina United’s Abba Khalid received a yellow card in the 64th minute.

Looking ahead, Niger Tornadoes will face Rangers International in their next NPFL fixture, aiming to build on this positive result.
