The 2026 WAFU Zone B U-17 Championship reaches its climax today in Ouagadougou as Niger Republic and Ivory Coast face off in the final. Both regional powerhouses secured their places in the showpiece event after navigating a competitive group stage and knockout round in Burkina Faso. The two finalists have also earned automatic qualification for the 2027 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations.
Niger reached the final after topping Group B with four points, having recorded an impressive victory over five-time world champions Nigeria. Ivory Coast advanced alongside them after holding Nigeria to a 1-1 draw and then overcoming Ghana in a hard-fought semi-final encounter. The final promises to be an intense tactical battle between two side’s boasting raw attacking talent and solid defensive foundations.
Host nation Burkina Faso will compete against Ghana’s Black Starlets in the third-place playoff earlier in the afternoon at the Stade du 04 Août. Burkina Faso will rely heavily on home support to finish their campaign with a bronze medal after losing out on a final spot. Ghana, meanwhile, will seek to rebuild their pride following their painful semi-final exit against the Ivorians.
The WAFU Zone B tournament remains an essential pathway for developing West Africa's top youth talent. Both Niger and Ivory Coast will be eager to crown their strong tournament performances with regional silverware before turning their attention to continental preparations.
