NFF to Stage 2025 President Federation Cup Final in Lagos

Posted : 09 June 2025

For the second consecutive year, the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos will host the grand finale of the President Federation Cup, set for Saturday, 28th June 2025. The scenic waterfront venue last staged the final in 2024, where El-Kanemi Warriors and Rivers Angels emerged champions in the men’s and women’s competitions, respectively.

Lagos has a deep-rooted history with Nigeria’s oldest football competition, having hosted 60 finals across various eras and name changes — including the Governor’s Cup, FA Cup, Challenge Cup, and Federation Cup. The current Mobolaji Johnson Arena, formerly King George V Stadium, hosted 18 finals between 1945 and 1962. The final moved to Ibadan briefly in 1972 before settling at the National Stadium, Surulere, which hosted 22 finals from 1974 to 2002.

Other venues that have staged the prestigious final include Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos (eight finals between 2007 and 2016), Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi (1989, 1994), Aper Aku Stadium, Makurdi (1992, 2008), Ahmadu Bello Stadium, Kaduna (1993, 1997, 2003, 2019), Rancher Bees Stadium, Kaduna (1998), Sam Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City (2004, 2021), Liberation Stadium, Port Harcourt (2005), MKO Abiola Stadium, Abeokuta (2006), Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano (2010), Agege City Stadium, Lagos (2017), and Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba (2018, 2023).

This year’s men’s final will feature surprise package Abakaliki FC of Ebonyi State taking on Kwara United of Ilorin, while defending champions Rivers Angels will clash with Nasarawa Amazons in the women’s final — promising a thrilling double-header to crown the season.

With Lagos again playing host, the 2025 edition not only celebrates elite football action but also reaffirms the city’s historic place in Nigerian football lore, showcasing the continuity and prestige of the country’s most storied domestic competition.
