The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) Refereeing Committee has indefinitely suspended referee Nyah Victor of the Akwa Ibom State Refereeing Council following a controversial decision in an NNL fixture between Rovers FC and Ekiti United in Calabar.
Nyah came under scrutiny after awarding what has been widely described as a “questionable and unjustified penalty” during the match, a decision the committee said violated the Laws of the Game and directly affected the outcome.
In a letter signed by Committee Chairman Mohammed Ameenu and forwarded through the Akwa Ibom State Football Association—also copied to the NFF President, Secretary General, and NNL Chairman—the committee strongly condemned Nyah’s conduct.
“Our investigation discovered that you awarded an unjustified penalty in the match between Rovers FC and Ekiti United. Your action not only negatively affected the outcome of the match but also brings the game into disrepute,” the statement read.
As a result of this breach, Referee Nyah Victor has been indefinitely removed from all league and other officiating duties.
The decision underscores the NFF’s renewed commitment to raising officiating standards across domestic leagues and ensuring fairness and integrity in Nigerian football.
