The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) will soon announce Abdullahi Biffo and Nurudeen Aweroro as assistant coaches for the U-23 Olympic Eagles. This follows Eric Chelle's expanded role as head coach for both the Super Eagles and the Olympic Eagles.
Biffo is a respected domestic coach. He recently joined the national setup as assistant to the Flying Eagles under Abdu Maikaba. He previously managed Kwara United and Sporting Lagos.
Aweroro has impressed at Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan. He led the Oluyole Warriors to third place in the 2025/26 NPFL season. Under him, 3SC also qualified for the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup after 27 years away from continental football.
These appointments form part of efforts to build a strong technical team. Nigeria aims to return to the Olympic Games for the first time since Rio 2016. Chelle's new contract includes oversight of the U-23 side.
The NFF and National Sports Commission have backed the moves. They provide improved support for the Franco-Malian tactician and his team.
Aweroro's work with 3SC developed players who earned senior national team call-ups. This includes appearances in the 2026 Unity Cup and CHAN. His tactical knowledge and player development skills will benefit the Olympic Eagles.
Biffo brings experience from multiple clubs and youth national teams. His role will add stability and local insight to the setup.
The Olympic Eagles face a tough qualification campaign for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Success would end a long absence from the Games. Nigeria last won Olympic football gold in 1996.
These changes signal the NFF's focus on youth development and continuity. Fans hope the new coaching team delivers strong results soon.
