NFF President Gusau Backs Coach Chelle Ahead of AFCON

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau has reiterated his trust in Super Eagles coach Éric Sékou Chelle, stating that the coach has been given a clear mandate to reach the final of the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking to Eagles FM, Gusau stressed that he would never interfere with team selections or instruct the coach on which players to call up.

“Since becoming NFF president, I have never stayed in the same hotel with the national team because I do not want to be a distraction,” he explained.

His comments reflect the NFF’s approach to granting full managerial freedom to Chelle while emphasizing that the federation’s role is to provide support rather than meddle in tactical or squad decisions.

The statement also underscores Gusau’s commitment to maintaining a professional environment for the team ahead of AFCON.
