NFF President Denies Altercation with CAF Vice President Fouzi Lekjaa

Posted : 21 January 2026

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), has described as “total falsehood” a report circulating on social media that claimed he had a public spat with President of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF), Fouzi Lekjaa, during a CAF Executive Committee meeting in Morocco.

The unsubstantiated report alleged that Gusau, who is also President of WAFU B, engaged in a heated argument with Lekjaa, the 1st Vice President of the Confederation of African Football, at a meeting held during the recently concluded 35th Africa Cup of Nations finals in Morocco.

“I really don’t know where the report is coming from. Nigeria and Morocco have very cordial relationships in football, and even at the government level, both countries maintain a warm relationship. Personally, I have always had a good relationship with Mr. Lekjaa,” Gusau said.

He added, “There was no shouting match, nor were any insults exchanged. Whoever created that report was engaging in pure falsehood.”

Gusau also denied making any comments regarding the officiating of the AFCON second semi-final between Nigeria and Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat on Wednesday, 14th January.

“Before the match, I publicly stated that the NFF had no apprehension about the officiating. After the match, I made no comments whatsoever, and I am completely baffled by the report suggesting that Mr. Lekjaa and I engaged in a shouting match over officiating,” he explained.

He concluded, “As far as the NFF is concerned, we have nothing but praise for the Morocco Football Federation, the Local Organizing Committee, the Government of Morocco, and the Confederation of African Football for hosting a successful AFCON, filled with glamour and moments that will remain memorable for many years to come.”
