NFF outlines Super Falcons’ four-round route to Los Angeles 2028

Posted : 07 September 2026

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has outlined the Super Falcons’ route to qualification for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, with the 10-time African champions needing to negotiate four rounds of two-legged ties to secure one of Africa’s two tickets.

Nigeria, one of the three highest-ranked teams in the African qualifying series, received a bye into the second round and will begin their campaign against Comoros in October.

The two legs of the second-round fixture will be played at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo, on Oct. 9 and Oct. 13, respectively.

Comoros booked their place in the second round after recording a comprehensive 30-0 aggregate victory over Sudan.

Should the Falcons overcome Comoros, they will advance to the third round, scheduled for Feb. 23 to March 6, 2027.

At that stage, Nigeria will face either Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) or Morocco for a place in the final qualifying stages.

The fourth round is scheduled for Oct. 4 to Oct. 12, 2027, where the Falcons could meet one of Tunisia, Senegal, Benin Republic or Mali.

The final round of the qualifying series will take place from Nov. 23 to Dec. 4, 2027, with Nigeria potentially facing Guinea, Cameroon, DR Congo, Côte d’Ivoire, Central African Republic, Algeria or Burkina Faso.

The NFF expressed confidence in the Falcons’ ability to successfully navigate the qualifying series and secure a second consecutive appearance at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament.

Nigeria returned to the Olympic stage at the Paris 2024 Games after missing the previous three editions and will be aiming to maintain that momentum by securing a place at Los Angeles 2028.

With only two African slots available for the tournament, the Falcons will have to maintain their consistency throughout the four-round qualification process to achieve their Olympic ambition.
