NFF Quells Rift Speculations in Super Eagles Camp

Posted : 07 January 2026

The camp of Nigeria’s Super Eagles has dismissed insinuations of a rift within the team following Monday night’s 4-0 thrashing of Mozambique’s Mambas, a victory that secured the three-time champions a spot in the quarter-finals of the ongoing 35th Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Striker Victor Osimhen was briefly seen gesturing toward fellow forward Ademola Lookman just before a corner kick, sparking conjecture across social and traditional media. However, Team Administrator Dayo Enebi Achor clarified the situation.

“There is no problem whatsoever in our camp. Whatever people saw as a crisis between two brothers was easily resolved a couple of hours later. All is good, and we are presently at training,” Achor said.

Achor also addressed reports that striker Jerome Akor Adams, who scored his first-ever AFCON goal on the night, had abandoned the team camp. “He took permission to visit his mother, who was hospitalized here in Fès, and returned in less than an hour,” Achor confirmed.

Osimhen scored twice against Mozambique, bringing his tally to 34 goals in 50 matches for Nigeria—just three short of the senior national record of 37 goals held by the late Rashidi Yekini. Ademola Lookman, who had contributed two goals and two assists in previous matches against Tanzania and Tunisia, added another goal and three assists against Mozambique.

All 26 available players participated in Tuesday evening’s training session at the Sardienne Complex, while young defender Ryan Alebiosu continues his recovery.

The Super Eagles will move to Marrakech on Thursday to prepare for Saturday’s quarter-final clash at 5 p.m., where they will face the winner of the Algeria vs. DR Congo match.
