Posted : 29 October 2026

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) CAF D Licence coaching course has commenced at Lanreleke Sports Academy in Ileogbo, Osun State, with 40 participants taking part in the grassroots football development programme.

Hosted by the Osun State Football Association, the course aims to improve coaching knowledge and strengthen football development at the community level. Coaches, facilitators, football administrators and community leaders gathered at the academy for the opening ceremony.

Former Super Eagles head coach Austin Eguavoen leads the team of resource persons delivering the training. Other facilitators include NFF Head of Coaching Education, Dr. Terry Eguaoje, and former international Edema Fuludu, alongside experienced coaching instructors.

Welcoming participants, Osun FA Chairman Mayor Sola Fanawopo stressed the importance of continuous learning and professional development. He encouraged the coaches to make the most of the opportunity and apply the knowledge gained to improve football in their communities.

Fanawopo described knowledge as an essential tool for understanding challenges, making informed decisions and creating opportunities. He also emphasised that the success of the programme would depend on how participants used their training beyond the academy.

He urged the coaches to share their knowledge with others, noting that improved coaching standards could have a wider impact on grassroots football. He also acknowledged the contributions of the academy's management, facilitators, technical advisers and community leaders to the programme.

The Osun FA chairman further called for stronger cooperation and investment in children and young people. He noted that developing young people through football requires sustained commitment from coaches, administrators and other stakeholders.

Former Nigerian international Mutiu Adepoju, popularly known as 'Headmaster', also addressed the participants. The former midfielder, who is a member of the Oyo State Football Association, urged them to listen carefully, remain committed to learning and work towards becoming better coaches by the end of the course.

Lanreleke Sports Academy founder, Engr. Lanre Adeleke, was represented at the ceremony by his brother, Engr. Lekan Adeleke, project manager of Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Ltd. He welcomed the participants and disclosed that the academy celebrated its fifth anniversary in September 2026.

He reaffirmed the academy's commitment to supporting government initiatives and football administrators in developing the game across Osun State and Nigeria.

The opening ceremony also attracted members of the Osun FA board and officials of the Nigeria Football Coaches Association, led by Bayo Adesina.

Fanawopo formally declared the training programme open, marking the beginning of an initiative designed to strengthen coaching capacity and improve grassroots football development in the state.
