NFF announces vacant coaching roles for Jose Peseiro and Nduka Ugbade

Posted : 08 March 2024

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has made a significant announcement regarding coaching positions within the national teams. The coaching role for the Super Eagles is now open, marking the conclusion of negotiations for a contract extension with Jose Peseiro.

Simultaneously, the position for the Nigerian under-17 national team, formerly held by Nduka Ugbade, is now vacant.

Jose Peseiro, the former Venezuelan manager, bid farewell to the Super Eagles through his social media platform as his contract with the NFF came to an end.

Despite successfully guiding the Nigerian national team to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, disagreements over salary terms emerged as a hurdle in contract negotiations.

Initially agreeing to a reduced salary of $50,000 before the AFCON tournament, Peseiro was offered the same salary post-tournament, which did not align with his expectations. The NFF increased their offer to $80,000, but it still fell short of Peseiro's expectations, leading to his departure.

Concurrently, Nduka Ugbade faced challenges in securing a U-17 World Cup ticket for his team, failing to meet the NFF's expectations. Consequently, the coaching position for the U-17 national team is now open, and the federation is actively seeking a new manager for the role.

Various candidates have been linked to the Super Eagles coaching position, including Emmanuel Amuneke, Augustine Eguavoen, Samson Siasia, and Finidi George.

The selection process for the coaching role is underway, and the NFF aims to appoint a caretaker manager for the Super Eagles ahead of their scheduled international friendly against El Salvador later this month.
