Newcastle See £50m Bid for Jorgen Strand Larsen Rejected by Wolves

Posted : 26 August 2025

Newcastle United’s search for a new striker has hit another setback after Wolves rejected a £50m bid for Norway international Jorgen Strand Larsen.

Eddie Howe’s team are actively seeking attacking reinforcements following Callum Wilson’s departure last month at the end of his contract. However, efforts to secure a replacement have so far proven unsuccessful, with Newcastle also seeing two bids for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa turned down.

Strand Larsen, who joined Wolves permanently for £23m earlier this summer after a productive loan spell in which he scored 14 goals, quickly became a target for Newcastle. Despite the significant offer, Wolves remain firm in their stance that the forward is not for sale. Manager Vitor Pereira emphasized Larsen’s importance, especially after losing Brazil forward Matheus Cunha to Manchester United earlier in the transfer window. “He is a very important player for us. I see his commitment every day in training. He’s a fighter,” Pereira said.

Newcastle’s urgency to recruit a striker has only increased. Anthony Gordon was forced to start up front in Monday’s defeat to Liverpool, where he was later sent off, while Alexander Isak is training separately amid his desire to move to Anfield. With little time left before the 1 September deadline, the Magpies’ options are dwindling, particularly as previous targets Hugo Ekitike, Benjamin Sesko, and Joao Pedro have already joined rival clubs.

Meanwhile, elsewhere in the Premier League, Everton have completed the signing of Tyler Dibling from Southampton in a deal worth £35m plus £5m in add-ons. The 19-year-old midfielder, capped twice by England Under-21s, has agreed a four-year contract until 2029. He described the move as a “perfect fit,” citing Everton’s new stadium and manager David Moyes as key factors in his decision. Moyes hailed Dibling as a “talented young English player” with the potential to play a key role in the club’s long-term project.
