Newcastle discusses signing Nigerian descent Chelsea academy product with Bournemouth

Posted : 10 May 2024

Newcastle has initiated discussions with Bournemouth regarding the potential transfer of Dominic Solanke, a product of Chelsea's academy, during the upcoming summer transfer window.

The Magpies are actively seeking to secure a striker to fill the void left by Callum Wilson, who is approaching the final months of his contract at St. James' Park. Solanke has emerged as the prime candidate to replace the English international in Newcastle's forward line.

Reports suggest that Bournemouth is also eyeing Wilson, creating the possibility of a player-plus-cash arrangement as part of the negotiations between the two clubs.

While Newcastle had previously shown interest in Solanke during the January transfer window, Bournemouth was reluctant to part ways with the striker at that time and may present similar challenges in the upcoming summer transfer period.

Eddie Howe's team is keen on finalizing the acquisition of the 26-year-old forward to strengthen their attacking options for the upcoming season, especially with their anticipated participation in European competitions for the second consecutive year.

Solanke has showcased his scoring prowess in the Premier League this season, netting an impressive tally of 18 goals in 36 appearances.

His goal-scoring record places him among the top performers in the league, trailing only behind nominees for the EA Sports Player of the Season award such as Erling Haaland, Cole Palmer, Alexander Isak, and Ollie Watkins.

With three years remaining on his contract with Bournemouth, Solanke's availability will likely come at a premium price, requiring Newcastle to negotiate terms carefully.
