The final, held at the Area 3 Football Pitch, brought an exciting close to the sixth edition of the grassroots football competition, which kicked off on June 3 and featured 23 teams.
The game began with early intensity as Paul Henry gave New Boys FC a 10th-minute lead. But after sustained pressure, One Touch FC found the equaliser through Jonathan Nuhu in the 75th minute.
Despite multiple late chances from both sides, neither team could find a winner in regulation time, sending the match into penalties. New Boys FC kept their nerve, converting four of their five spot-kicks to seal the win.
New Boys FC booked their place in the final after a commanding 3–1 win over G-Medix Football Academy, while One Touch FC edged Gwarinpa United 1–0 in their semifinal clash.
Speaking after the triumph, New Boys Head Coach Ayala Bashiru praised his team’s determination:
“It wasn’t an easy game, but we give God the glory from beginning to end. I thank the crew and our supporters. Now we prepare for what’s next.”
He also commended the officiating, calling it “fair and professional.”
Meanwhile, One Touch FC Head Coach Jeffery Okoli expressed pride in his team’s efforts despite the result:
“Penalty is anybody’s game. Unfortunately, it wasn’t our day. But this is not the end. We will regroup and come back stronger.”
The victory marks a significant milestone for New Boys FC, who impressed with their consistency and attacking flair throughout the tournament. Their ability to hold their composure under pressure cements their place as one of the rising teams in Abuja’s grassroots football scene.
