New boost for Ndidi’s suitors as clause revealed

Posted : 30 April 2025

Super Eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi may be preparing for a summer exit from Leicester City after the club’s relegation to the English Championship. The Nigerian international could be among the key players to depart as the club restructures ahead of the new season.

Ndidi played a vital role for the Foxes during their campaign, although his contributions were not enough to prevent the drop. Over the course of the season, the 28-year-old featured in 27 matches across all competitions and recorded four assists.

The midfielder had only recently renewed his contract with Leicester City last summer after his previous deal expired. His decision to stay on was seen as a show of commitment, especially considering the uncertainty surrounding the club’s performance.

However, following the team’s demotion to the second tier, several clubs have reignited interest in signing him. Ndidi has always been admired for his consistency and defensive work rate. Turkish giants Besiktas have been monitoring him for some time, while a few English Premier League sides are reportedly weighing up potential bids.

A new twist in the situation has emerged, according to Euro Foot, revealing that Ndidi’s contract includes a clause permitting a release for just €9 million in the event of relegation. This discovery has likely intensified interest in his signature.

That release clause makes Ndidi a highly attractive option for clubs looking to strengthen their midfield on a budget. The €9 million fee is well within reach for teams in the Premier League or Europe’s top leagues. Even Turkish clubs could make a move, particularly since his salary demands are not excessive.

As the summer transfer window approaches, all signs point to Ndidi seeking a fresh challenge. A move away from the King Power Stadium seems increasingly probable, marking the end of an era for the Nigerian at Leicester.
