Dr. Emmanuel Edem Ikpeme launched his new book at the VIP Lounge of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja. The public presentation drew prominent figures from the Nigerian sports community to celebrate the publication. Professor Olufemi Adegbesan served as the official book reviewer for the event. He is the current national president of the Sport Psychology Association of Nigeria.
The book offers an insider account of the administrative efforts that shaped Nigerian football history. Legendary youth coach Manu Garba spoke highly of Ikpeme during the launch. Garba described the author as a hardworking and straightforward psychologist who proved vital to national team success. He noted that Ikpeme secured crucial Cross River State Government backing for the team.
This state support funded critical training camps and qualification matches in Calabar. The structural stability directly aided victories over Niger, Guinea, and Mali during the qualification phase. Consequently, the team went on to lift the global trophy in the United Arab Emirates. The 2013 Golden Eaglets subsequently set the FIFA U-17 World Cup scoring record. They scored 25 goals in seven matches and conceded only four.
Garba emphasized that a strong working relationship between technical and administrative staff drove their historic tournament run. He credited assistant coaches Emmanuel Amuneke and Nduka Ugbade for their immense contributions. He also praised the Aminu Maigari-led NFF board for ensuring prompt player bonus payments.
The coach also highlighted the long-standing challenges that local athletes face. A 2013 pledge of houses to the squad by the Cross River State Government remains unfulfilled. Garba explained that documenting these historical episodes helps Nigeria manage its complicated sporting heritage.
