2025 AFCON: Super Eagles Captain Ndidi Pledges to Cover Backlog Bonuses

Posted : 09 January 2026

Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has urged his teammates to stay focused and continue training ahead of their 2025 AFCON quarter-final clash against Algeria, despite delays in bonus payments from the FG, NSC, and NFF.

Speaking to the team in Marrakech, Ndidi said: “I don’t want the unpaid bonuses to affect our preparations. I’ve told the players and coaching staff that I will personally make the payments if the FG, NSC, and NFF fail to do so. I have been encouraging the squad to train and stay ready since the second game. I have now committed to personally paying the bonuses if the authorities fail to settle them before Saturday.”

Following this, reports indicated that the Super Eagles have put the bonus dispute behind them and have arrived in Marrakech, Morocco, ahead of their quarter-final fixture in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Previously, the team had boycotted training and disrupted activities within the camp due to unresolved bonus issues. On Wednesday, no training session was held, raising concerns about the team’s preparation for the knockout stage.

The matter has since been resolved, allowing players and officials to resume planned activities. According to an official video shared on the team’s social media, the Super Eagles were seen training upon arrival in Marrakech as preparations for the quarter-final continue.

The move to Marrakech marks a return to normalcy for the Super Eagles as they shift their focus back to on-field duties ahead of the critical knockout encounter.
