The Dan Anyiam Stadium lived up to its billing as a cauldron of passion as Heartland FC bounced back from their opening 2025/2026 Nigeria National League (NNL) Day 1 defeat, restoring pride in their Matchday 2 encounter against Edel FC with a 2–1 victory on Saturday, Nov. 22.
The Naze Millionaires could not have asked for a better start to their home campaign. Barely a minute after kickoff, midfielder Murphy Ndukwu ignited the Owerri crowd with a stunning opener, calmly slotting past goalkeeper David Ede to set the tone for a spirited performance.
Still brimming with confidence, Ndukwu turned provider soon after. His clever pass found Joel Okoro, whose shot took a wicked deflection off a defender before nestling into the net.
The early double lifted the stadium into a frenzy and gave the team the cushion they desperately needed after last week’s painful defeat in Ogbomosho.
Edel, however, refused to fold. After regrouping at halftime, coach Fesojaye Tajudeen introduced tactical changes that steadied his youthful side.
Their persistence paid off in the 57th minute when Obi Emmanuel capitalized on a defensive lapse to pull one back, silencing the home fans momentarily and setting up a tense final half-hour.
Despite the renewed energy from the Anambra-based team, the Owerri landlords’ defense, which had faltered against Crown FC, held firm this time. The hosts absorbed pressure with improved coordination and discipline, ensuring that Emmanuel’s strike remained only a consolation.
Coach Tajudeen praised his side’s resilience despite missing key players. “We came here for a win despite being without two of our key players. We conceded the quick goal due to the complacency of my defenders, and the second goal was a deflection that can beat any goalkeeper in the world. We made a few changes in the second half and got a goal. In spite of these challenges, I am very proud of my boys. People say we have a very young team; yes, that is how we build our team so they can grow and represent the country in the future. As for the officiating, it was fair.”
For Coach Emmanuel Amuneke and his players, the victory was more than three points; it was a statement of intent. The players celebrated with their passionate supporters, knowing that reclaiming the Dan Anyiam Stadium as a fortress is central to their title ambitions.
With their home ground roaring back to life, the victory not only restored pride but also rekindled belief that the Scientific Boys can mount a serious push for promotion and remain a force to be reckoned with in the NNL.
