The race for the remaining Super 4 places in the Nathaniel Idowu Under-16 Football League will reach its decisive stage on October 31, with five teams fighting to join Young 11 FA in the championship playoffs.
Week Eight produced several important results that intensified the battle for qualification. Young 11 FA have already secured their place in the Super 4, but Fortune FA, Ajegunle United SC, SC Heritage, Atico FA and Bright Stars SA remain in contention for the three available spots.
At the New Maracana Sports Complex in Tolu, Ajegunle United SC boosted their qualification hopes with a 2-1 victory over St. Petersburg FA. Adogha Peter opened the scoring in the 13th minute before Onyebuchi Okoli added the second in the 50th minute to secure three valuable points.
Atico FA also strengthened their campaign with an entertaining 4-3 win over Moore Wins Foundation FA. Haruna Usman, Korede Olabiyi, Ayomide Oyebanji and Opeyemi Ajiboye scored for Atico in a seven-goal encounter that kept their hopes of reaching the playoffs alive.
Bright Stars SA recorded another significant result by defeating SC Heritage 2-1 away from home. Feranmi Akinwale scored twice in the 20th and 48th minutes, overturning Norbert Theodore's opening goal and returning Bright Stars to contention for a Super 4 place.
At the Nathaniel Idowu Football Pitch in Oregie, Divinely Blessed FA secured a convincing 3-0 victory over bottom-placed Seraphic FA. The result provided a boost for Divinely Blessed, although the main focus remained on the battle for the top four positions.
League leaders Young 11 FA maintained their unbeaten record after drawing 2-2 with second-placed Fortune FA. Bamidele Waris and Adebayo Lateef scored for Fortune, but Daniel Hameed and Quadri Azeez responded for Young 11 to ensure the leaders avoided defeat.
The final round promises intense competition as the remaining contenders attempt to secure their places in the knockout stage. Ajegunle United face winless Seraphic FA in a fixture that could offer a valuable opportunity to strengthen their position, although they must still deliver on the pitch.
Fortune FA, Ajegunle United, SC Heritage, Atico FA and Bright Stars SA are separated by just two points, leaving little room for mistakes. Goal difference and the final results could prove decisive in determining which teams advance.
After Week Nine, the top four teams will qualify for the Super 4 Finals. The competition will feature semi-finals, followed by a final between the winners and a third-place playoff for the defeated semi-finalists.
Organised by Peakline Sports World Limited and sponsored by the Nathaniel Idowu Foundation, the league supports grassroots football development and provides young players with opportunities to compete and develop their skills. With Young 11 FA already through, the October 31 fixtures will determine which three teams join them in the fight for the U-16 title.
