Nathan Tella eagerly awaits Rhine Derby, calling it a special game

Nathan Temitayo Tella, the winger for both the Super Eagles and Bayer 04 Leverkusen, is eagerly anticipating the upcoming Rhine Derby clash against F.C. Cologne in the Bundesliga.


Throughout this season, the versatile 24-year-old has played across various positions for Xabi Alonso's team, notably contributing to their victory over Bundesliga record champions Bayern Munich.


In fourteen appearances for Die Werkself, the former Burnley player has scored four goals and provided another, playing a pivotal role in extending the team's impressive 33-match unbeaten run in all competitions – a historical feat for a German team.


This weekend, Bayer 04 Leverkusen will face FC Köln at the Rhein-Energie Stadion in the Rhine Derby, a fixture of significant importance in German football.


Expressing his anticipation for the game, Tella highlighted the special nature of matches like Sunday's against the Billy Goats, emphasizing the uniqueness and rivalry that brings joy to football fans.


"Yes, it is a very special game. As a team, we are all looking forward to playing against our rivals. It is going to be a good game. A good opportunity for us. We always want to make our supporters happy. It means a lot for us but also for them. We have given them a lot of good memories this season and we want to continue to do that," stated the Arsenal academy graduate in an interview with Bundesliga International.


The Rhine Derby involves games between clubs in the North Rhine-Westphalia region in Germany, with participating teams including FC Köln, Borussia Mönchengladbach, and Bayer Leverkusen.


Xabi Alonso's squad currently leads the table by nine points, with Thomas Tuchel's Bayern Munich in second place, while FC Köln occupies the 16th position, just four points above the bottom spot.
