Nasarawa United’s bid to maintain their lead at the top of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) table suffered a slight setback as they were held to a 1–1 draw by hosts Kun Khalifat FC in a Match Day 13 encounter at the Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, Imo State.
Anas Yusuf opened the scoring in the 14th minute, firing home a powerful strike after being set up by Ada Umar. The Solid Miners maintained their narrow advantage heading into the break but switched off defensively in the 65th minute, allowing Otu Stanley to nod in the equaliser following a poorly cleared ball.
Both teams pushed for a winner, but the scoreline remained unchanged at full-time, forcing a shared outcome.
Sunday’s draw saw Nasarawa United slip to second place on goal difference, although they remain level on 24 points with Ikorodu City FC. Meanwhile, Kun Khalifat continue to struggle in the relegation zone, sitting 16th with 13 points.
The Solid Miners will return to Lafia for their Match Day 14 clash against El-Kanemi Warriors FC of Maiduguri on Sunday, 23 November 2025.
Reacting after the match, Nasarawa United head coach Mangut Mbwas acknowledged the difficulty of the fixture.
“I knew it was going to be a tough game because the hosts lost here last weekend and were determined to recover their image. Our early goal unsettled them, but they came out stronger in the second half and got the equaliser.
“We made some changes, taking off Ugochukwu Leonard because he was exhausted from the workload, while Anas Yusuf was heavily targeted by defenders because of his threat on and off the ball.
“In all, I must commend my boys for their fight and for securing a point here. We’ll work hard and smart as we prepare for El-Kanemi Warriors, another strong side, to ensure we pick up maximum points at home.”
