Nasarawa United Boss Mbwas Mangut Targets Strong Finish Against Barau FC in NPFL Finale

Posted : 13 May 2026

Nasarawa United head coach Mbwas Mangut has challenged his players to deliver a high-level performance in their final match of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season. The Lafia-based club is scheduled to face Barau FC at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano on May 24, 2026. While the team is no longer in contention for a continental ticket, Mangut remains adamant that finishing the campaign with dignity is the priority.

The Solid Miners currently sit in fifth position on the NPFL log with 56 points after 37 matches. This follows a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Plateau United in their last home fixture. Mangut expressed his satisfaction with the growth shown by his squad throughout the second half of the season. He noted that the team has improved significantly since their earlier encounters.

The technical adviser highlighted the competitive nature of their recent victory against Plateau United. He admitted that the opponents provided a stern test for his players. However, he praised the resilience shown by his wards to secure the maximum points. Mangut told club media that the focus has now shifted entirely to the trip to Kano.

Barau FC will host the season finale in a match that holds significant weight for regional pride. The Kano-based side has enjoyed a solid debut top-flight season and will look to leapfrog those above them. Nasarawa United must maintain their concentration to avoid a slip-up in the final week. Mangut promised supporters that his team would fight until the very last whistle of the campaign.

The 2025/2026 season has been a journey of consolidation for the Solid Miners. After a strong push for a top-three finish, the club fell just short of the points required for CAF competition spots. Despite this, the coach believes the foundation has been laid for a more successful title charge next year. He urged the fans to continue their loyal support as the league reaches its conclusion.

Victory in Kano could see Nasarawa United cement their place in the top five. This would represent a significant achievement given the competitive nature of the league this term. The NFF has confirmed that all Matchday 38 fixtures will kick off simultaneously to ensure sporting integrity.
