Nasarawa United begin three-week off-season break, target continental ticket

Posted : 24 June 2026

Nasarawa United have announced a three-week off-season break for players, coaches, and backroom staff following the conclusion of the 2025/26 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.

The club said the 21-day recess, which began on Tuesday, June 23, will end on July 13, with pre-season training scheduled to commence on July 14 ahead of preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.

The announcement followed a management meeting held at the club's secretariat in Lafia.

Nasarawa United ended the 2025/26 NPFL season in sixth position on the 20-team table with 56 points and also reached the semi-finals of the President Federation Cup before losing 4-2 on penalties to Ikorodu City after regulation time ended 1-1.

Reflecting on the campaign, the club acknowledged that it fell short of winning silverware or securing a continental ticket but said lessons from the season would shape its plans going forward.

The management said it had already begun a comprehensive review of the campaign and would strengthen the team with the aim of challenging for major honours in the new season.

It added that qualifying for continental football remains a key objective for the 2026/27 season, describing it as a fitting way to appreciate the unwavering support of stakeholders and fans.

The club also expressed gratitude to the Nasarawa State Government, led by Governor Abdullahi Sule, for its financial and moral support throughout the season.

It further appreciated Deputy Governor Emmanuel Akabe, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Kwanta Yakubu, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, the Nasarawa State Football Association, supporters, partners, and members of the media, particularly the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Nasarawa State Chapter, for their contributions during the campaign.

Nasarawa United assured supporters that the team would return from the break refreshed and fully focused on mounting a stronger challenge in the 2026/27 season.

The Solid Miners are determined to leverage their recent top-six finish and deep cup run to build a more formidable squad for the upcoming football calendar. By addressing the shortfalls of the previous term during the administrative review, the club aims to fulfill its ambitions of returning to the continental stage. The strategic structural adjustments planned during this recess will be pivotal in shaping Nasarawa United's pursuit of domestic silverware.
