Nasarawa Amazons booked their place in the semi-finals of the 2026 President Federation Cup after overcoming defending Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) champions Edo Queens 5-3 on penalties following a goalless draw in their quarter-final encounter at the Prince Abubakar Audu University Mini Stadium, Anyigba, Kogi State.
The highly anticipated fixture lived up to its billing as two of Nigeria's top women's teams battled fiercely for a place in the last four. While clear-cut chances were limited, the contest was packed with intensity, tactical discipline, and defensive solidity.
Nasarawa Amazons started brightly and enjoyed the better share of possession in the opening half. The Lafia-based side controlled the midfield exchanges, disrupted Edo Queens' build-up play, and frequently threatened through crosses and set-piece situations.
Despite their dominance, Christopher Danjuma's side could not find a breakthrough as Edo Queens remained organized at the back. The Benin-based club also had moments of promise going forward, but both teams struggled to convert opportunities into goals.
The deadlock persisted after the interval as the two sides continued to cancel each other out. Seeking a winning edge, Danjuma reshuffled his squad in the 54th minute, introducing Moses Farikikyen for Ogunfuwa Omotoke, while Isaiah Ochanya and Nnadi Oluchi were also brought on to inject fresh energy into the attack.
The substitutions increased Nasarawa Amazons' attacking intent, but Edo Queens' defence stood firm under pressure. At the other end, the reigning NWFL champions searched for a decisive goal of their own, only to be frustrated by a disciplined Amazons backline.
With neither side able to break the deadlock after regulation time, the match proceeded directly to penalties in accordance with Federation Cup rules.
The shootout proved to be a showcase of composure from Nasarawa Amazons. The Solid Miners Ladies converted all five of their spot-kicks with remarkable confidence, while Edo Queens failed to maintain a perfect record, missing one of their attempts.
The flawless display from the penalty spot handed Nasarawa Amazons a deserved 5-3 shootout victory and secured their passage into the semi-finals.
The Lafia outfit will now face Sunshine Queens of Akure, who defeated Confluence Queens 1-0 in another quarter-final fixture, for a place in the final. Details regarding the venue and date of the semi-final clash are yet to be announced by the competition department of the Nigeria Football Federation.
