Musa Wahab Targets WAFU B U-20 Final Victory Against Burkina Faso

Nigeria's Flying Eagles will face Burkina Faso in the WAFU B U-20 Championship final with defender Musa Wahab confident that the team can claim the regional title. The decisive encounter comes after Nigeria defeated hosts Côte d'Ivoire on penalties in a dramatic semi-final.

Nigeria were held to a 2-2 draw after regulation time before winning the shootout 4-3. The result secured a place in the final and kept Abdu Maikaba's side on course to defend the trophy they won in 2024.

Wahab said the players have remained focused while working to improve their understanding on the pitch. The centre-back also stressed the importance of playing as a united team in the final.

“We are preparing and we are trying our best to play as a team,” Wahab said. “We are happy and calm. We are hoping for nothing but a win.”

The final gives Nigeria an opportunity to respond to their only group-stage defeat. Burkina Faso defeated the Flying Eagles 2-0 in their final Group B match, making the championship decider a chance for Nigeria to settle the score.

Nigeria had earlier opened their campaign with an impressive 4-2 victory over Ghana. Olayemi Ayinla, Lucky Oraro and Muiz Adeleke were among the key contributors as the defending champions made a strong start to their title defence.

The Flying Eagles subsequently advanced to the knockout stage before overcoming Côte d'Ivoire in the semi-final. Burkina Faso reached the final after defeating Niger Republic, setting up a repeat meeting with Nigeria from the group phase.

The tournament carries added importance because it serves as the qualifying competition for the 2027 CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. The two finalists are set to secure the WAFU B zone's qualification places for the continental tournament, which will be hosted by Ghana.

Nigeria enter the final as defending champions. They defeated Ghana 2-1 in the 2024 WAFU B U-20 final in Lomé, Togo, after also winning the previous edition in Niger in 2022.

Maikaba's side will now need a stronger performance against Burkina Faso after losing the earlier meeting. Wahab and his teammates are aiming to turn that setback into motivation as they chase another regional title and a successful qualification campaign for the 2027 U-20 AFCON.
