Kano Pillars FC secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Barau FC in the 2025/2026 Match Day 29 of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), with club legend Ahmed Musa delivering the decisive moment in the second half to hand the Sai Masu Gida all three points.
The Pride of Kano began the encounter with attacking intent, creating early opportunities in front of their passionate supporters. Former Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa, in the 20th minute, found himself one-on-one with the Barau FC goalkeeper after a swift attacking move, but his dangerous cross flashed across goal with no teammate available to apply the finishing touch.
The four-time champions continued to pile on the pressure as the first half progressed. A golden opportunity arrived in the 36th minute when Jude Okorie rose highest to meet a pinpoint cross from Mustapha Jibrin, but the Barau goalkeeper produced a fine save to deny what looked like a certain goal.
The breakthrough finally arrived in the 57th minute. Mustapha Jibrin delivered a perfectly taken corner kick into the penalty area, where Ahmed Musa met the ball brilliantly to score a stunning goal that sent the home supporters into wild celebrations.
Buoyed by the opener, the Sai Masu Gida dominated the closing stages of the match and created several chances to extend their lead. Jude Okorie, Luis Dadong, Mustapha Jibrin, Olakunle Akala, Rabiu Ali, Christian Izuchukwu, and Joseph Ezigbo all came close to scoring, while the hosts were twice denied by the woodwork as the ball struck the goalpost on three separate occasions.
Despite the missed opportunities, the defensive unit held firm to secure a deserved victory for the Pride of Kano. The win lifts Kano Pillars to 15th position on the NPFL log with 35 points, level with 13th- and 14th-placed Niger Tornadoes and Wikki Tourists FC, tightening the race in the middle of the standings.
The former President Federation Cup champions will now turn their attention to a crucial away fixture next weekend as they travel to Minna, North Central Nigeria, to face Niger Tornadoes in a Match Day 30 clash at the Bako Kontagora Stadium.
