Premier League: Munoz Rescues Liverpool as Newcastle Hand Tottenham Second Defeat

Liverpool were forced to settle for a 2-2 draw with Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday after Victor Munoz struck late to deny the visitors victory. Meanwhile, Newcastle United defeated Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 to leave Roberto De Zerbi's side without a league goal after their opening two matches.

Nottingham Forest twice took the lead, first through Dan Ndoye and later via a Morgan Gibbs-White penalty. Alexander Isak briefly brought Liverpool level after the interval before Munoz's late effort secured a point for Andoni Iraola's side.

The result means Iraola is still waiting for his first Premier League victory as Liverpool manager. The former Bournemouth boss also saw his team come from behind to draw 2-2 at Newcastle in his opening league match last weekend.

Liverpool struggled to impose themselves during the first half, but their performance improved significantly after the break. Isak equalised on the hour before Gibbs-White restored Forest's advantage from the penalty spot in the 70th minute.

Munoz then produced the decisive moment in the 82nd minute, unleashing a powerful effort that took a deflection before finding the net. It was his first goal for Liverpool and ensured the Reds avoided defeat in Iraola's first league match at Anfield.

Iraola admitted his side had been below their best in the opening period but praised the improvement after half-time.

"It's quite clear the first half has been poor, we haven't controlled the game."

He added that Liverpool were "much more intense" and quicker with the ball after the interval but acknowledged that the improvement was still not enough to secure victory.

Liverpool's next league assignment will be away to Ipswich on Friday, with Iraola still searching for the first win of his tenure.

Newcastle Heap More Pressure on Tottenham

At the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Newcastle United claimed a 2-0 victory to condemn Tottenham to their second consecutive league defeat.

Anthony Elanga opened the scoring in the 62nd minute before Yoane Wissa doubled Newcastle's advantage 10 minutes later. The result gave manager Matthias Jaissle his first Premier League win since taking charge of the Magpies.

Tottenham had shown promising moments during the first half but failed to convert their opportunities before Newcastle took control after the break.

The defeat leaves De Zerbi facing increasing pressure after Tottenham also suffered a 3-0 loss to Brentford in their opening match.

Despite spending more than £300 million during the close season, Tottenham have yet to score in the Premier League this season. They have now lost their opening two league matches without finding the net, highlighting the scale of the challenge facing De Zerbi.

The Tottenham manager refused to panic, insisting that his team can improve with more work and better understanding between the new players.

"There is no panic. I know where we are going and what the plan is. I'm sorry for the fans for the result."

De Zerbi has already brought in several new players as he attempts to rebuild a team that finished 17th last season. He is also expected to pursue another major signing before the transfer window closes.

Hull Maintain Perfect Start

Hull City continued their impressive return to the Premier League with a 1-0 victory away to Coventry City.

Substitute Liam Millar scored with eight minutes remaining to give Hull their second consecutive win since returning to the top flight. The Tigers had already stunned Manchester United 2-0 in their opening match.

Coventry, meanwhile, are still searching for their first point after losing their opening two matches following promotion from the Championship.

Everton Rescue Point at Bournemouth

Everton also secured a late point after James Tarkowski scored in stoppage time to earn a 1-1 draw at Bournemouth.

Alex Scott had given Bournemouth the lead in the 41st minute, but Tarkowski capitalised on a defensive mix-up to level the contest in the closing stages.

The result means Everton remain unbeaten after opening the season with a 2-0 victory over Crystal Palace, while Bournemouth are still searching for their first win under manager Marco Rose.
