Abdulrazak Muftau scored with the last kick of the match to earn Nigeria’s Future Eagles a 2-2 draw against Jordan at the inaugural FIFA U-15 World Cup and Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Sunday.
The result marked Nigeria’s second consecutive draw at the tournament, following Saturday’s thrilling 3-3 stalemate against South Sudan.
The Future Eagles, coached by Patrick Bassey, faced a difficult test against Jordan, with neither side able to find the net in the first half.
Captain Timothy Ogar broke the deadlock for Nigeria after the restart, but Jordan equalised five minutes later before taking the lead.
Muftau then rescued a point for the Nigerian youngsters with his dramatic late equaliser, extending their unbeaten start to the competition.
In their opening match against South Sudan, Nigeria twice came from behind before taking the lead in the second half through Wisdom Oche. However, South Sudan scored an equaliser less than a minute before the final whistle.
Wisdom Boniface and Ogar had earlier found the net for Nigeria in that encounter.
The Future Eagles were scheduled to face fellow West Africans The Gambia on Sunday evening before taking on Cyprus and Pakistan on Monday.
The inaugural tournament features an eight-a-side format, with matches played over two 20-minute halves.
Group-stage performances will determine the teams’ progression into the competition’s different tiers. The second stage is scheduled for October 28 and 29, ahead of the tier finals on October 30.
